An Honorary Fellow of the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society, Manny Ling is a highly regarded freelance designer, typographer, calligrapher and lettering artist.

Since working as a digital typeface designer for Letraset in the early 90s, he has gone on to exhibit, teach workshops and lecture around the world, including the London College of Printing, and is currently a programme leader for the MA Design: Multimedia and Graphics programme at the University of Sunderland. Alongside this, he is Director of the International Research Centre for Calligraphy.

The duality of being Chinese practicing Western calligraphy has had a profound influence on his work, enjoying the contrasts and contradictions of East meets West, Old meets New, Energy meets Stillness.

In this exclusive, members only talk, he will explore the influences and traditional processes of East Asian calligraphy and its relationship with digital media in the West, and discuss how integrating these traditions can be developed into new approaches to work.
